It’s amazing what happens when educational institutions support their co-operative ……

CES a co-operative has developed over 20 years since its inception and is recognised as an industry leader offering an integrated service model in the education sector across NZ.  Our ‘mission’ today remains the same i.e. to provide comprehensive and cost- efficient services to member / shareholding schools and to the wider education sector.

CES was formed in 1989 by 33 state secondary schools in Canterbury to succeed the former Christchurch Secondary Schools Council, following its abolition by the 1989 Education Act.  Our structure is unique amongst financial services providers in that as an incorporated society and a cooperative profits are returned to NZ schools.

The cooperatives resolve and philosophy of supporting schools, trusts and not for profit organisations has underpinned our development into leadership in the education services sector, today providing services to over 180 schools and supplying products to in excess of 700.

CES, leverages from our combined buying power to get better deals for our clients.  Using the benefits that scale brings enables CES to obtain benefits for members that are not available to you as individuals.

Benefits of membership of CES includes -

  •   Wholesale pricing through our Supplies Division with membership of ‘Supplyline’
  •   Preferential pricing with our business partners through our ‘Preferred Suppliers Scheme’
  •   Access to Members only specials
  •   Involvement in the direction of CES

What sort of savings will we get?

Savings will vary relative to your expenditure.  We’ve calculated average savings by Primary School and by a High School.  A Primary School could expect average annual savings of approximately $3,300 if they participate in both ‘Supplyline’ and ‘Preferred Supplier’ contracts.  High Schools will have average savings of approximately $11,000 per year. We can complete a free analysis of your expenditure so that you can get a feel for the savings your school will achieve through membership.

Payback on CES membership is achieved within a year because of savings you’ll achieve.

How do I become a member of CES?

CES membership is available to any educational institution in New Zealand including any pre-school, primary school, secondary school, community college, post compulsory educational institution or entity.

To become a member of the Society requires the purchase of 2x $1000 nominal value shares. The application process involves completing and submitting an application form for consideration and approval by the CES Board of Directors.

MOE funded educational institutions require MOE approval to hold shares and access membership in CES.  CES manages this process, making it an easy decision for you and your board.

Members provide authority to direct debit their accounts for purchases made.  This is a convenient way to pay your monthly account and ensures you retain eligibility for rebates.

If you are interested in becoming a member of CES or would like further information, or an analysis of expected cost savings membership will bring your school contact Wayne Jamieson Supplies & Marketing Manager or Anna Thomson, General Manager at CES - telephone 03 338 4444, email gm@cessl.org.nz or fill in the forms below.

To complete your application for shareholding simply follow the links and complete the following two forms Application for shareholding, and Authority to Accept Direct Debits.  Scan and email your completed forms to office@cessl.org.nz and we'll be in touch to progress the MOE component of the application.
