Social media can be tricky! Follow these five simple steps to help improve your school’s Facebook presence.
We live in a technology society – as we all know! And with that comes an expectation to be active on social media, which can take time. Follow these tips to help you become savvy with using Facebook.
1. Make your page easy to find
There’s nothing worse than not being able to find the page you’re after online. Make sure you have a clear link to your Facebook page from your website and a button that encourages people to “like” you on Facebook. You can do this by including the Facebook icon for people to click on too. The more people that can find your page, the higher your engagement rates will be.
2. Build a social media plan
While this may sound like a waste of time, it will help you in the long run. Try to schedule general posts at times your followers are active, and this will help you to ensure you’re posting enough, but not too often. Social media plans will help you to plan what you will post and when, and manage your content to make sure you’re not posting the same thing. You can pre-prepare posts as well, and get them ready for publishing at a later date. Using student work or profiles of staff would be useful.
What else is social media for if you’re not communicating with your followers? People will follow your page because they are interested in, and want to know, what your school is doing. Make sure you post updates and important notices to your page to keep everyone informed. Developing good communication with your followers is key to them continuing to interact with you.
4. Photos and videos
People love to see videos and pictures of what’s happening – they’re more likely to pay attention to those kinds of posts. Make your posts fun and engaging for people, with images and videos of the school itself. The more clicks you get on these images, the more Facebook will feature them and make them a priority on others’ newsfeeds too. It doesn’t have to be of professional quality, just capturing the moment on your cellphone will work perfectly!
5. Post a range of content on different topics
Always seeing school notices and classroom updates can become mundane for your followers. Make sure to change up your posting with content about your school, the students, and staff, and even tips and tricks for parents during the school year. Your followers will appreciate a range of content, and this will help to maintain your followers and their interaction with your page and posts.
